Three natives of the Dominican Republic were ordered deported by Governor John Duncan.

Roberto Feliz Ubiera, 44, Rosa Anita Coporan-Jimenez, 37, and Victor M. Perez De La Cruz, 38, were served with their deportation orders on Friday, May 26th, after serving six months at the Her Majesty's Prison for illegal entry.

The trio was individually deemed to not belong to the Territory, and landed in the Territory contrary to the provisions of the Immigration and Passport Ordinance (Cap. 130) and further they have been convicted of the offence of Illegal Entry, which is punishable with imprisonment of three months or more.

Further, according to the order, the Governor, in exercise of the power conferred on him by sections 40(1)(a), (b) and (c) of the Immigration and Passport Ordinance (Cap. 130), ordered that they leave the Territory of the Virgin Islands from the date on which a copy of the Order is served by an immigration officer or a police officer, and thereafter, remain out
of the Territory.

The orders state that they must be placed on board the first available ship or aircraft about to leave the Territory, and that they may be detained until placed on a ship or an aircraft.

When the trio appeared in court in February, charged with illegal entry, they pleaded guilty and Coporan-Jimenez told the court that she came in search of work to help feed her family back home, noting that she had no ill intentions.

However, the two men told the court that the BVI was not their final stop as they were headed to the U.S Virgin Islands.

They trio was nabbed in the area of Road Reef in a vessel. They told police that they were headed to USVI, but the boat had encountered some mechanical issues. They did not possess any visa to allow entry into the BVI.
